We travelled to Japan to speak to Liverpool fans about the club’s new signing, Takumi Minamino (南野拓実).

They may be 10,000km away from Anfield – but you certainly can’t question the supporters’ passion for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Let us know what you think of Minamino in the comments – is it time to get excited about the impact the 25-year-old is going to make in the Premier League this season?

Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in world football and Takumi Minamino is their first-ever Japanese player. Minamino signed for Liverpool in the January 2020 transfer window and his arrival is good news for the local Reds fans in Tokyo.

Minamino already enjoys a high profile in his homeland and supporters are delighted that he will now be lining up alongside superstars like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
But why do the Reds have such a large following in Japan? What does Minamino’s move to Merseyside mean to the fans in Japan? And how exactly do you follow a team that plays their games on the other side of the world? @OliverTrenchard travelled to Tokyo to find out!

From unique tales of Liverpool’s Champions League final victory over AC Milan to lending their support to Merseyside-based food banks and presenting a special gift to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, these fans prove you can support a club from anywhere.

A big thanks to OLSC Japan and Epilogue Pub and for helping us out with the Takumi Minamino documentary, and a special thanks to ULTRA SOCCER and OLSC Japan for their help with video footage from events.
