日本球界で数々のタイトルを手にした前田は2016年にロサンゼルス・ドジャースへ入団し、メジャーデビューとなった4月のパドレス戦では初登板・無失点・初勝利、そして初安打はレフトスタンドへのホームランという二刀流とまでは言わないがデビュー戦だけを見れば大谷翔平以上の完璧すぎるメジャーデビューを果たした。
今現在、前田の扱う球種は5球種でフォーシーム、スプリット、スライダーを軸にシンカーやカーブも投げている。
トミー・ジョン手術の影響もあってかフォーシームの球速は以前より明らかに落ち平均球速はメジャー平均を大きく下回る91マイルとなっている。
ただ前田の場合、変化球も高く評価されておりフォーシームに頼る事なく多くの球種をバランスよく投げ分け、今なおメジャーの第一線で先発投手としての役目を十分に果たしている。
続々とメジャーの世界に参戦する新しい日本人選手に話題がいきがちだがぜひツインズに所属する前田健太にも注目し更なる活躍に期待して頂きたい。
